My Heart, My
for solo harp and recorded text
The text is presented in the form of electronic playback. The harp expands upon and de-contextualizes the meanings of each phrase by directly mimicing the pitches, rhythms, and timbres of the recording. The harp functions as a "musical" mechanism for each word/phrase, revealing the motivic material that lies beneath the immediate semantic constitution. Three distinct sections are outlined by the development of the speech within the recording as well as the three disparate approaches to the mimicry and musical expansion of speech by the harp.
